Are you all as busy as I am? It’s been a month! A lot of “What is DECA?”, “Do you all do anything fun?”, “Which event should I choose?”, and “How do I study?”. If we are lucky, we also get the comments from our experienced competitors, “How do we ALL get better?”.
These monthly newsletters serve as opportunities to share as many resources as possible to help your chapters succeed this year.
Paid Subcriber Update
Thank you to those of you who have joined this Substack as a paid subscriber. For either $8/month or $80/year you both support my work + get a chance for monthly book giveaway + an invite to a quarterly video meetup.
This month’s book giveaway winner is Lori from Tennessee. She won my copy of Co-Intelligence: Living and working with AI. I took this book with me to ICDC in May and read it on the plane. It’s stellar.
The mid-October video meetup will occur during the week of 13 October. I will figure out a specific date and time this week.
If you want to participate in the mid-October event AND have a chance to win my monthly book giveaways, please join as a paid subscriber. I truly appreciate your support!
Principles Support
I find it most difficult to support Principles competitors. Why? These are the competitors that know the least about DECA and compete on the same timeline as your other competitors. I put together an explainer video, which says it is specific to Principles of Entrepreneurship- but the tips in the video apply to all Principles events.
To that end, I worked with Param, who came in 6th at ICDC in Entrepreneurship Series to produce a sample role play for PEN.
I really like Param’s response. It’s not perfect AND I think a new member could certainly match this level of a role play. He came in 6th in the world in ENT (yes, he tested well), so it shows you can win with such a role play.
I think both of these resources are good for new students, especially those in Principles events, to understand exactly what they need to do to succeed.
Quick word about cluster exam prep
I find that preparing for cluster exams is the most time consuming part of the role play event. As soon as your competitors know their events (mine will by 15 October), you need to help them make a plan.
With 7-8 district level cluster exams on www.deca.org/resources, help your chapter create a plan to study each of the district exams. I suggest taking one exam and examining the results closely over about 10 days. You can do this more aggressively, but it takes time to fully create study materials. Create a plan and stick to it. Do not wait until two weeks before districts to start studying!
