Role Play Success
A compilation of resources to help new members especially through the role play process. Please share the entire post on your DECA classroom pages to help your new members.
Step 1: What is a role play?
It helps to see one in action. Here is a role play I recorded with Simran, who won first place at ICDC in 2022 in Personal Financial Literacy.
Step 2: How do I do that?
My role play tips video helps a new student navigate through the basics of the role play.
Step 3: Role play breakdown
With the tips from the second video, I then break down the PFL role play and analyze what is going on.
Step 4: Dominate districts
Yup, I’ve shared this video already, but as some of our chapters get ready for districts, it is worth sharing again. So many students miss this advice.
Step 5: More role plays please!
In 2024 I recorded a few more role plays to share with the community. My role play sample videos will continue to grow, but especially for first year DECA members, these are very helpful.
Step 6: Practice… and tips!
Use every available role play from www.deca.org/reosurces and DECA+. If you need additional role play samples, let me know. I have many I can offer you for $3 per role play.
For each role play you practice this year, set up your phone and record yourself! Yes, make a folder on your phone of your practice sessions. Watch them (gulp) and learn from what you like and do not like. Two things you can do here.
Watch without the audio. Note the mannerisms you find distracting and minimize them. Also note what you did well.
Only LISTEN to the recordings. How many “filler words” do you use? How much can you improve by noticing your mistakes.
Record every practice session. Some will be terrible. Some will be great. Continue to practice until you notice they are more consistently better than not.
By forcing yourself to record and analyze your practice sessions, you will get stronger with every repetition.
Good luck this year on your DECA success journey!
